If you are sharing a computer with someone, in a small to medium size business and want to keep your emails secure. There is a option with Outlook Express provides a simple and easy way to protect your emails, but is not entirely ineffective method to prevent others from accessing the emails stored in my folders.

If you protect your Outlook Express identity with a password, this does not guarantee that a thrid party software will not crack it, but it is a deterent and will lock people out who are quickly trying to read your email. To really protect your emails, make sure you have a good Windows Account password and your Outlook Express store folder are encrypted if you use Windows 2000 or later.

To protect your email in Outlook Express with a password:

  • Click on your email client Outlook Express
  • Click on the toolbar and Select File,  Identities, Manage Identities from the menu
  • Highlight your identity
  • Click Properties.
  • Make sure Require a password is checked.
  • Type the desired password under New Password and Confirm New Password.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK again.
  • Finally, select Close.
